About Chris

For years I have observed, noted, and thought about those less fortunate whom reside on the streets, pleading for food, warmth, and money. At first glance you may think, "get a job, or do something, anything!" The reality is that many homeless have drug and alcohol or mental problems or no means to advance except to beg. I'm asking you to put yourself in their position for one minute. Imagine having no means to shower, shave, brush your teeth, use a Q-Tip, purchase decent clothing or satisfy the basic essentials. How can one in that scenario elicit any positive reaction from anyone let alone a potential employer? Imagine being desperate enough to have to ask for money and the level of embarrassment that must be created in these people. Then imagine everywhere you go people watching you with disgust in their eyes and hearts, with no empathy, no love, and the sense of isolation that must result.

Most of my interactions with homeless have been positive, with them being thankful for food, water, clothing, blankets or someone to speak with or someone who would just listen.

My goal is to rid all the streets of homelessness in this great nation or at least bring attention to, or empathy for a fellow human being, and create hope, not just to the homeless population but to the entire planet, that there is good in people, more so than anything else! Thank you for your help.

A native San Diegan, Chris Hernandez has seen homeless people on the city streets since he was a boy. On numerous occasions, Chris brought blankets, clothes and other necessities to some of the homeless men and women. From those experiences, Chris recalls that most people are friendly, caring and are doing what they can to get back on their feet. Resources are slim in San Diego with not enough food, beds and clothes to meet the demand and opportunities for these people can be just as scarce.

Raising awareness as well as money to help San Diego’s homeless is Chris’ primary motivation in “Paddle for Hope.” This one-day venture on June 20, 2007 will include Chris kayaking from Catalina to the mainland (approximately 25 miles) with one arm. By paddling with only one arm, Chris hopes to signify the hardships homeless people encounter on a daily basis.

“Paddle for Hope” is a one-of-a-kind trip inspired by individuals who have to struggle every day to survive on city streets without food, clothing and shelter. For more information on this trip or to make a voluntary donation, contact Chris today.

FTCWhile raising awareness as well as money to help San Diego’s homeless is Chris’ primary motivation in “Paddle for Hope”, Chris would also hope to raise awareness as well as money for Feed The Children, Inc., who can deliver food and basic necessities to children and families right here in San Diego & across the Continental United States through their Truck Sponsorship Program. (FTC is the beneficiary and NOT the Sponsor of this event) To learn more about FTC or to make an appreciated donation please go to www.feedthechildren.org or Call (800) 627-4556.
