The Cause

Homelessness in the United States has reached epic proportions and is a widespread problem in San Diego. Though there are several shelters available for homeless men, women and children, there are not enough beds to meet the demand and many people continue to sleep on the streets each night. Though volunteers are essential in helping the homeless in San Diego, many only come during the holiday season. Though there are several city and community sponsored organizations to help homeless people, many don’t have the resources to assist every individual. “Paddle for Hope” cannot fix all of these shortcomings, but it is Chris’ goal to raise awareness and funds to make some change, small or large, in the homeless community in San Diego.

“Paddle for Hope” will take place on June 20, 2007. Chris will paddle from Catalina to the mainland in a kayak with one arm to signify the plight of the homeless and confirm this cause. By paddling with only one arm, Chris hopes to signify the hardships homeless people encounter every day. Many suffer from addiction, or mental handicaps and most all of them don’t have the bare essentials that the average person takes for granted. By donating to a Paddle for Hope, you are taking the first step in curing the widespread problem of homelessness in San Diego.
